The remnants of the X-Men along with Franklin and her, were trapped and soon to be killed by Nimrod, and refusing to give in to despair, Rachel impressed the Phoenix Force that had been bonded with her ever since she was born. After all, in this reality, it never cocooned Jean, it merely bonded with her fully. So she passed it down in her genetics to her daughter.... when the Phoenix Force sensed such strong will, and such a need and a stubbornness that teetered on the edge of madness, along with the utter desperation... (After all, at this point, the only survivors of Nimrod's assault were herself and Kate Pryde... and she was just watching Kate give her life, phasing through Nimrod's CPU and then turning fully solid inside, destroying herself -and- Nimrod..). The other Sentinels were all moving in to finish off the last mutant present, blasting at Rachel's telekinetic shields with a combined assault that would overwhelm her in moments... That was when the Phoenix Force decided to bond with her -power-, and flames burst forth throughout the room. But Rachel's mind was focused on restoring what should be. On fixing all of this before it happened. That was the entire plan that the X-Men had been working on for years. Suddenly... Rachel was somewhere else. She was in the same -location-, but not the same time.
2020: Rachel appears in New York City in the past... maybe the future -can- be changed. Freed, the X-men enacted a plan to end the evil of the Sentinels via temporal manipulation. The mind of Kate Pryde was sent back in time inhabiting her younger self to prevent the assassination of a senator. The other X-men besides Rachel and Kate were killed, but the mission seemed to succeed.
2047: Rachel's present was left unchanged despite the apparent success. Rachel was able to astral project her consciousness back in time to try to figure out what went wrong. As Rachel worked out that Kate's mind had crossed timestreams, the daughter of Jean Grey was noticed by the Phoenix Force. The Force sent part of itself into the future, where Kate Pryde bargained with it to save Rachel should the worst happen. Rachel and Kate were caught trying to destroy the advanced Sentinel prototype, Nimrod. '''Driven:'''
Rachel is a tormented soul who refuses to give in to sadness and despair. She is full of guilt and shame for the acts that she performed when she was a Hound for Ahab and the Sentinels. She is grieving for her friends and for the man she fell in love with.. Franklin. She misses the touch of his hands, the feel of him next to her.
But she never quite learned how to quit, how to surrender to the darkness inside. She was at the edge of hopelessness, and exhaustedly pushing forward when she should have died. But her sudden arrival in the past has filled her with a renewed sense of possibility, but more importantly, something she thought she would never feel again.. HOPE!
It is time to do whatever she needs to do in order to change the future for the better. To save her friends and family. And maybe, just maybe she might find Franklin again.
+
While the determination to make sure her world never exists consumes Rachel's thoughts, as does the dream that all mankind live together in harmony, Rachel still has other sides to her personality that show when she's calm, relaxed, and enjoying the moment. Most of the time Rachel lives for the future, a better future, but in those moments when laughter, family, and friends intervene, she can 'let her hair down', and live life to its fullest.

'''Guilty Echoes:'''
+
She's still haunted by her past, though it usually only shows itself in nightmares, guilt ridden moments when her past echoes to the forefront of her mind. Nightmares that force her to re-live her days as a hound, sometimes over and over again.

+
'''Overcoming Her Past:'''
+
Rachel's personality is shaped due to her past, and yet, she is now learning to not ever let it define who she is. She is a strong willed, determined, and vivacious young woman who's overcome a great deal of tragedy to become the person she is now.

+
'''Survivor:'''
+
To sum up Rachel in one word would be to call her a survivor. Rachel has lived through a post apocalyptic world, has been put through hell and back, and she's always managed to survive. While she may have been beaten down as a child, now that she is free from the Sentinel's programming, she has only become stronger because of it. She will never be broken or manipulated again, and woe be to anyone who may try.

'''Astral Projection:'''
+
Rachel can project her consciousness out astrally. This takes a lot of effort and time to perform, and can only be maintained for a short duration at present, but in this form she can only be perceived by those capable of seeing astral forms, and can travel at vast speeds at an unlimited range where it can be barred by magical or psionic shielding and can perceive the world around it. At present, it takes so much focus for her to project that she cannot use her telepathic or telekinetic abilities while projected astrally.

'''Empathy:'''

'''Flight:'''
+
She can control herself and fly at high speeds. When reaching supersonic speeds, she will be seen to have a full Phoenix aura about her. It is important to note, the Phoenix Force aura is just for show and has absolutely no benefit other than a spectacular light show.

'''Force Field:'''
+
Rachel protects herself with a shield of telekinetic energy that is virtually impenetrable if she is focused on it. If it is a more passive thing, then it is weaker but by no means considered 'weak'. It would take heavy high explosives, or concentrated power such as Warship scale weapons to breach it in passive mode. But every hit makes it harder to maintain. So overloading her shield is possible. Three or four blows from someone of Colossus's strength would breach it in passive mode. If she is focused on her shield to the exclusion of all else, it would take truly staggering power levels to bring it down. Something like Superman at full force, a fusion warhead, or Power Cosmic level blasts. This doesn't mean that she won't be bounced about inside the shield like a rock in a suitcase however.

+
'''Mental Blasts:'''
+
Rachel can project telepathic energy directly into the mind of a target. These blasts can cause pain and neural disruption in a target. These can cause unconsciousness or even brain death if a target is already weakened or not of strong will. Or if blasted repeatedly.

'''Mental Paralysis:'''
+
An advanced version of the Illusions, Rachel can simply make a target (or multiple targets for shorter duration in direct proportion to the number of targets) unable to take action or even receive sensory input for a time while she concentrates upon them.

+
'''Phoenix Aura:'''
+
Rachel does not have any connection to the Phoenix Force, however, the momentary touch that Rachel did have left her with a spectacular light show - that of the Phoenix Force aura, a giant bird that can sweep about Rachel's form. This aura is absolutely harmless, useless and Rachel really tries her best not to even worry about it.

Plot Device: The Phoenix Force at its most primal is a device for the plot and story to progress forward. Anyone who is running a story or scene is encouraged to use this to provide jump off points or plot tie-ins to make things work more easily. In whatever way improves the story of course. Rachel does not have any connection to the Phoenix Force other than a momentary use which sent her to this timeline, at which point the Phoenix Force left her again to do - whatever it is that it does.

'''Projected Force:'''
+
When used offensively, she can project blasts of staggering force. These are kinetic energy at its most basic, so anyone capable of resisting such pure force can handle them. She can crush an armored tank with one of these blasts. In times of great stress, Rachel can double these attacks, although her temper tends to get the best of her making her control far less attuned and focused. At all times, Rachel tries to not let go of her discipline and control if possible.

'''Telekinesis:'''

'''Telekinesis:'''
Rachel also possesses Omega level Telekinetic abilities. When used at its most basic level, she can move massive amounts of weight or project vast amounts of telekinetic force. There are some applications that she can perform of a more subtle and detailed nature. Most of these are subconscious as she is still coming to terms with having the awakened Phoenix Force within her.
Force Field: Rachel protects herself with a shield of telekinetic energy that is virtually impentrable if she is focused on it.
Rachel's power level is classified as an Omega Level Mutant. This puts her potential off of many charts. Rachel has not achieved her full potential as a telepath, there is always room for improvement and better understanding of what she can do. She can read minds and transmit her thoughts to human or animal minds within a range that has yet to be fully measured. She only knows that it is vast. Rachel's psionic abilities shield her own mind subconsciously. It would take a tremendous amount of telepathic power to breach her defenses. There are additional uses detailed in other entries.
Yes, Rachel has access to some of the Phoenix Force. The sentient sum of all psionic power in the universe. But she does not have unrestricted access to it. She can call on it for its enigmatic advice if she focuses hard enough.

+
Rachel is the daughter of Phoenix and Scott Summers from an alternate, dystopian future. In order to get from that point in time and space to this one, The Phoenix Force bonded temporarily with Rachel. Thus, Rachel has (for a brief moment) been the host to the Phoenix Force, which is the sentient sum of all psionic power in the universe. The Phoenix Force left her swiftly afterwards and Rachel does not have any further connection to it.

Rachel has -just- discovered her bond with the Phoenix Force. She is lacking in the control department where her boosted powers are concerned. Any time she goes into Phoenix Power Levels, she risks losing control of the power, and having it run rampant, affecting friends and foes alike. At first, she is not fully aware of this, but her control could improve as time progresses.

Rachel has a pretty bad temper. This can, (and has) gotten her in trouble on more than one occasion. When her emotions are at this heightened stage, Rachel runs the risk of losing control of her powers, and having them run rampant, affecting friends and foes alike. She must maintain a cool under fire composure at all times - which is not easy.

If that was done at the wrong time, she could totally lose control of the Phoenix Power.
