Just one among the countless victims of Gotham's corruption and criminal underworld, Caleb finds himself ever-dragged into a world he can't escape from - a world controlled by the Mob. Forced to work for one Bazilio Vittorelli, he comes when called, must do what he's told to do - lest his family pay the price. The tasks are slowly demanding more and more of him - and his humanity...

Timeline:
2003 - Caleb is born in Gotham to Preston and Laura Dykstra; his father is a mechanic, his mother a store manager.
2009 ? Young Caleb starts to show an early interest in tinkering with gadgetry and music. His parents get him a guitar and enroll him in lessons.
2011, 'No Man's Land' - Caleb and his mother are trapped under their home's debris for days. His sister, Sheila, is born during this time, with him having to assist. His mother dies shortly afterwards from unassisted childbirth complications, just under an hour before being rescued.
2012, After 'No Man's Land' - With their house completely destroyed and insurance deeming too costly to rebuild, the Dykstras move to a low-rent apartment, but with a higher crime rate.
2012, 'Invasion!' - The Dykstras go underground for the duration, but not before they are attacked by an alien; Caleb kills it when this one is about to maul his father and sister to a pulp. Once hidden, is father helps with the resistance, while Caleb serves as a courier between resistance cells.
2012, after 'Invasion!' - The Dykstra family enters finantial difficulties over repeated loss of house and business. They just barely escape bankrupcy, but they enter a time of deprivation.
2014 - Caleb develops an interest in his father's business; his father 'enrolls' him into his workshop as an aide for minor chores, all the while learning the secrets of the trade.
2016, April - One day, stopping by a grocery store on his way home from school with Sheila, this store is robbed, and in the heat of the action, Caleb is shot while protecting his sister; it was only by the quick action of a concerned citizen that he did not bleed to death.
2016, June - Caleb recovers from coma and is discharged from the hospital, but would have respiratory complications that would periodically bring him to the ER.
2017, March - Caleb's early interest in music and practice earned him a spot on a starting band in high school. He also meets a girl, Hannah, whom he dates for a while, but she quickly ends it when she joins the cheerleader team.
2017, June - Caleb starts to get a minor celebrity status as the band starts to kick off. In a strange twist of events, Hannah, seeing this as an opportunity to seize popularity, tries to get back to him, but is rebuffed.
2019, May - Caleb's band becomes a small icon at his school, so much so that it enters a 'Battle of the Bands' event between schools; however, he suffers a sequel from the shooting years prior, and he's rushed to the hospital and undergoes surgery - putting a further strain on the Dykstra family's finances.
2020 - Now under finantial difficulties, Preston turns to one mobster Bazilio Vittorelli who, to square off loan debts has him do mechanic jobs on his henchmen's cars. Caleb gets suspicious over the new 'clientele' his father is taking, though he says nothing.
2021 - Vittorelli's requests get increasingly outrageous, reaching the point that he makes it clear to Preston via an 'unfortunate accident' that he'll never let the Dykstras clear of the debt. With his father injured, Caleb is now forced to step in for his father.
2022 - Reluctantly inducted into the criminal world, Caleb sees no choice but to fulfill Vittorelli's orders... All for his family's continued safety.

Personality

Angry:
The pain of loss, downward spiral paths and poor choices over his short lifespan have made Caleb into a very angry and bitter individual. He hides it well, but if he gets the chance to vent it out, he will unload - this will range from verbal smackdowns, to fisticuffs, to throwing things.
Committed:
When he gets something on his mind, he will go to the greatest of lengths to get it done. He /must/!
Compassionate:
It may not look like it, but there is compassion in Caleb - it's just been buried deeper and deeper for years. If he can avoid hurting someone, he will. If the opportunity presents itself to save someone from Gotham's depredations, he will go out of his way to do it.
Fearful:
Caleb is plagued by the constant fear of anything happening to his surviving family - even moreso of failure. Because if he fails in the eyes of his 'mob boss', his family will pay the price...
Hardened:
Living in Gotham all his life and enduring some serious tragedies and hardships for such a young age, Caleb has built up a wall where he shoved his emotions behind.
Sad:
Being dragged into a life of debt and (so far petty) crime is taking its toll on Caleb's mind. He is visibly sad (to those who know how to observe, anyways), for he feels like the end of his innocence is coming. There may come the time - maybe it's just around the corner - when he may be ordered to hurt or kill someone. Or maybe just framed for it. But in Gotham, the result's all the same, isn't it?

Guitar:
Learning from a young age, Caleb can actually play really well. Although his preferred styles would be more modern, that doesn't mean he doesn't know some of those oldies but goldies.
Mechanic:
Showing an interest from an early age, Caleb has been learning his father's trade. He knows the theory well enough, but could use some more practice with assembling parts and wiring circuits to be considered 'decent'.
Tinkering:
Caleb likes to take apart pieces to see how they work, and as an apprentice mechanic, that is a must. It's this knack that got him interested in mechanics, just like his father. He is an adept at reverse-engineering, repairing and restoring mechanical parts, even some electronic ones, or at least tweak them long enough that they could go on for a while longer. He's been known to restore butterfly knives and even collection items like old radios. He should also be able to craft small electronics from scrounged parts.

Bazilio Vittorelli:
Basically, his 'boss'. He, through his henchmen, provides the info for his next assignment, and what little resources be needed for it to be fulfilled - that's it.
Family:
No matter what, Caleb can always count on his family to be there for him - it is the one thing that gives him stability and clarity of mind, it is the end goal of his rationalization as to why he does what he does. Anything he needs, his father will go to the best of his abilities to get it for him.
Weaknesses

Health Issues:
Shot in the back once in protection of his sister during a store robbery, Caleb has a poorly healed lung. Every now and then, this lung likes to play a trick on him and collapse. It can happen during extreme duress, or with a well applied punch or other form of impact. Whatever the case, it will be hospital time.
Life of Crime:
Having to forcefully work for a mob boss, this means that in the order of things, he's street trash. Sooner or later, he will have a criminal record - if he doesn't already. If he does, and this mob boss happened to be arrested, this 'castle of cards' would come crashing down - with him at the very bottom. From tying up loose ends by order of the made men to silence him or his family, to having police patrols out there to bring him in for questioning - or silence him in case they're corrupt -, he's likely to be in the line of fire.
And naturally, if this mob boss wants him disposed of, the same scenario will apply...
Miscommunication:
When mob bosses say, the underlings do what they say. But, the way it works is that the order goes down the chain of command several times to avoid association or at least present reasonable doubt if a case ever builds up and courts are involved. But, because the order is given by said underling, there's really no way of knowing if this one is telling the truth; if he claims 'the boss said so', the next guy down the chain of command is supposed to do it out of faith and loyalty. But, if the boss said nothing and the underling is doing it to plan a move behind the boss' back, then that's a problem - a problem that, if shit hits the fan, might need to be solved by letting go of the expendable guy at the end of the line...
Unwanted Attention:
If word gets out you work for the mob, you might get a visit - whether your local police department asking questions, whether competition involving mob wars, or maybe a member of the resident Bat-Family. Regardless of whoever is watching, this is attention Caleb oesn't need in his life.
