Character Info
Profile
The daughter of a boss of the Manfredi Family, Viola is torn between loyalty to her family and her sympathy for innocent people hurt by the Maggia. As a teen she found a hidden room and the journal of her deceased grandfather, himself a former Don. Within, Vi found the information to unlock the mutant power that had skipped a generation. Now she has graduated college, and with her mutant power has the ability to become a protective force for good. Or she could follow her grandfather's footsteps and use the abilities to become a force within the Maggia.
Timeline
Timeline:
1998: Born to Joseph and Clarice Fiore in New York City
2000: Viola's brother Gino is
born.
2008: Hurtful comments by other children lead to internet searches by Viola. They
reveal her father is Maggia, a member of the Manfredi Family. The Don, Silvio Manfredi, is godfather
to Vi and her brother Gino. Viola's grandfather, Marco Fiore, had been Don before Silvio. She
continues to grow up in relative wealth.
2010: During childhood, learns to play various
instruments and starts to pick up other languages in addition to the Italian she was taught
alongside English.
2012: Escorted to a school dance by Carlo Manfredi, Silvio's second oldest
son. This starts Vi and Carlo dating off and on for the next eight years. Many in both families hope
the pair will eventually wed. Both fathers would welcome the strengthened family ties.
2013:
Viola has rare 'flashes' where her senses are overwhelmed by some new sensation, only to have it
fade rapidly. Eventually she realizes in those moments she is sensing specific objects around her,
always metal ones.
2014: One of these 'flashes' leads to discovery of a hidden room, and the
journal of her grandfather Marco. He had a super power and he used it to become don. He could ingest
certain metals, 'burning' them to fuel powers. Vi realizes she has the same power. She begins
studying the journal and practicing. Like her grandfather, she keeps her powers a
secret.
2016: Graduates high school and enrolls at Columbia. Works part time with a high-end
event planner, gaining experience and more exposure in high society.
2020: Viola graduates
Columbia with a degree in sociology and a minor in criminology. Education furthers her attempts to
understand her father's Maggia business.

Personality
Confident:
Viola grew up in a life of privilege which left her a fairly confident person. She was usually
popular and other kids looked up to her and wanted to be around her. This has left her with a strong
sense of self-worth and trust in herself as a person.
Conflicted:
Viola is cursed by a strong enough sense of empathy that she's not been able to reconcile her
family's wealth coming from criminal enterprises. She adores her life of luxury, and does not mind
it coming from activities like running gambling. But when innocent people get hurt such as by
protection rackets, it leaves her with feelings of guilt that tear at her.
Extrovert:
Vi is more of an extrovert than not. She does keep some parts of herself private, but would tend
to start a conversation in a quiet room, or take a position of leadership among others her own age.
Especially if others do not step forward. She can be assertive, but it is a choice rather than a
constant personality trait.
Family Loyalty:
Viola has a strong sense of loyalty to her family. This has been instilled in her by her parents
and the rest of the Manfredi family. However this loyalty is greatly tested by the acts of greatest
harm that their criminal enterprises cause. It is possible her sense of loyalty will one day be
enough to draw her into their criminal affairs as an active member.
Materialistic:
Viola is not particularly judgmental about other people, their clothing, homes, cars or
occupations. But that doesn't mean she doesn't crave for herself the finer things in life. She
greatly appreciates luxury and is a touch materialistic when it comes to her own possessions. But
she is not the type to lord such advantages over others.
Character Sheet
Powers
Allomancy:
Vi's mutant power requires her to swallow small amounts of metals, flakes or pebbles usually, of
specific types and compositions. She can then "burn" the metals in her stomach to create specific
effects.
Each metal must be a fairly specific purity, and alloys must be a fairly specific
ratio for full potency. Just scraping iron off a barred window would give a fraction of normal
strength.
Powerful effects burn through the fuel metals faster than weak effects. Effects in
the middle scale accordingly.
All metals can be burned simultaneously (and some effects can
only be done safely with the help of other metals). They can be started or stopped at
will.
Metals can be replenished at any time by swallowing more, but Vi will get sick if she
has too much in her stomach at one time. At ST discretion she might be able to go beyond her limits
with other consequences. See the Sick Stomach weakness.
The metals that Vi knows about she
learned of from her grandfather's journal, as he had the same mutant power. If there are other
metals that Vi can use, she would have to encounter them in the correct pure composition before her
body would learn how to burn them. Discovering additional metals and powers would require an
approved +sheet entry by staff. There are coded sections of the journal she has not been able to
translate. These could contain such information.
Enhance Body: Pewter:
Pewter lets Vi improve her physical abilities, and speed up healing somewhat.
At Slow
Burn her Strength and Agility increase to Olympic athlete levels for an hour. Speed and Endurance
for two hours. Flared can give 30 seconds of Strength/Agility equivalent to Captain America
(physical only not skills), or 5 minutes of running Speed.
Durability- A Slow Burn would let
her take punches like a heavyweight boxer for an hour, survive a big fall, and insulate her against
low level detrimental effects of her own powers. Fully flared might let her take super strength
hits, survive an explosion, only be nicked by a hit from a sword, or survive the most tremendous
forces of her own powers. Fully Flared lasts a minute or less.
Healing- Can be sped up to 5x
normal human levels by a Slow Burn. Heal a bruise overnight, a broken bone in a few days. No lost
limbs or other things a human will not normally recover from. Pewter is the only metal that can be
used while asleep (required for overnight healing). Flaring will not speed up Healing.
Note:
Pewter is often required in conjunction with Vi's other powers at higher effects to strengthen the
body to prevent those other powers injuring herself.
Enhance Senses: Tin:
A Slow Burn of Tin increases the five senses beyond human to the level of a sensitive animal for
an hour. Increasing just one sense would last longer. Partial night vision, hear heart beats,
recognize familiar people by smell are possible. Flared, she might manage a Daredevil feat like
picking out a specific voice in the city, or detecting poison in a beverage, but would last for less
than a minute.
Can be stunned by sudden sensory overload especially when Flared, though
burning Pewter at the same time would prevent or at least lessen it. Touch is also enhanced, so pain
can be worsened, a too-warm surface might feel like being burned alive while flared.
Pull Metal: Iron:
While burning Iron, Vi can sense all nearby metals within 100 meters.
Can Pull metals
towards her in a direct line towards her chest. No up-down or side-to-side motion so this differs
from telekinesis. Also, if an object's effective weight is much lighter it is moved. If Vi's is much
lighter, her body is moved.
A Slow Burn could pull with 100 lbs of constant force sustainable
for 3 hours. Flared fully might lift 5 tons for 20-30 seconds.
The following details apply to
both Iron and Steel
- She gets a sense of the metal's mass and size only.
- Both the
object and Vi's body feel the force same as if she was doing it manually by tugging on a rope.
Burning Pewter is required to avoid injury at higher levels.
- This is not magnetism, just "a
force" that affects metals only. So no extra effects inherent to magnetism like creating
electricity.
- Does not work on adamantium, vibranium or other comic rare metals. Nor aluminum
(her weakness metal), nor metals within and part of an organic being. Yes on a sword stuck into
someone, no on surgically implanted metal pins or cybernetic implants.
- Can Pull more than one
object at a time, it just depletes her fuel metal faster. To move an object that is heavier, she
would generally Pull on an even larger object in the other direction to brace herself.
- By
Pushing or Pulling off heavy or braced objects, Vi can propel herself into the air. This is more
like Spider-Man using webs to change his direction, than it is like Superman going anywhere he
wants. She can slow her fall with her powers if there are objects around, or burn Pewter to survive
a hard landing.
Push Metal: Steel:
Identical to Pull Metal: Iron except it is a Pushing force rather than a Pull.
Skills
Education:
Viola attended one of the best preparatory schools in New York and went on to college at
Columbia. Torn between duty to family, her love of a lavish lifestyle, and her feelings of empathy
towards those harmed by her family's actions, she studied sociology. She thought she might use the
degree to help others. She graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in sociology with a criminology minor.
She also took courses in finance, political science and pre-law. The knowledge, combined with
information picked up by her super-powered eaves dropping, help her gain a better picture of the
Manfredi Family's affairs.
Languages:
As a young girl, Vi was taught Italian alongside English and speaks it flawlessly. She has also
is conversant in Spanish and French, and knows a small amount of Japanese. Trips abroad with her
wealthy family, especially to Europe, helped her hone these language skills. She has a solid grasp
of Italian culture.
Music:
Viola has learned to play a few instruments and has a nice singing voice. Her favorite and best
instrument is the cello, but she also plays the guitar, piano, and flute. She knows a range of
pieces from classical to jazz and popular music. And of course, she knows quite a few Italian
classics!
Shrewd and Manipulative:
Viola is smart in a practical sense, especially in areas of social interaction and particularly
the Maggia's sorts of interaction. Years of eavesdropping on her father and other top members of the
Maggia have given her insights. How to strong arm people or gain leverage over them. How criminal
enterprises are run and how to stay ahead of the law. How to fend off rivals. She has the makings of
an effective Maggia leader if she ever chose to pursue that direction. To be clear, Viola has the
SKILL to be manipulative, but rarely does she reveal that side of herself. Her abilities there would
surprise her family were she to ever make a push towards joining the family business.
Style:
Like many who grow up with the wealth to dress well and buy the nicest items, Viola has a well
-developed sense of style. Her knowledge of fashion would let her hold her own in a conversation
with a professional designer. Vi has a knack for putting together outfits, or doing small amounts of
interior design. She has put these skills to use helping others put together gatherings, and during
college worked part time with a high-end event organizer doing large charity balls, weddings, and
other upper scale gatherings.
Resources
Contacts:
Members of the Manfredi family are usually happy to help her, and even other families are likely
to treat her with respect. Though Viola's sphere of contacts goes outside of that group thanks to
the influence of her father. Politicians, wealthy citizens, union members, and even just regular
people in the communities dominated by the Manfredi may show her kindness out of respect, or fear,
of her father. This can cut both ways of course, as those her father has wronged may try to take it
out on his daughter in subtle ways. Or for those brave enough, more overt fashion.
She also
has some knowledge of underworld figures such as fences and forgers, mainly from eavesdropping on
her father and his associates. In many cases she may know of these people, but they do not know her,
which might require delicate handling on Viola first approaching them.
During her time
working part time with a high-end event organizer, Viola also made more of her own contacts amongst
high society.
Grandfather's Journal:
Vi's grandfather was Marco Fiore, who was Don of the Fiore crime family before Silvio Manfredi
took over following Marco's passing. Vi's first brushes with her mutant power were flashes of
sensing metal. Caused when iron in food and drinking water was enough to fuel her power for a
fraction of a second. One such flash revealed metal behind a wall where she wouldn't expect any. And
led to discovery of a secret room built by Marco.
It contained his journal which documented
his rise to power, and also revealed he had powers fueled by consuming small amounts of specific
metals and alloys. There was also a large cache of the metals as well. Vi has the same power and
practiced using it in secret, guided by Marco's Journal. There are sections of the journal written
in code which might contain info on more metals and their associated powers. Or could contain
information with other uses. The journal also details Marco's journey as a person, including things
like how killing his first person affected him. Those stories are going to be used for reflection on
similar events that transpire with Viola.
Hero Equipment:
Viola has an extensive supply of the metals that fuel her powers. She prepares small vials in
advance with flakes or pebbles, some with a single metal, others with combinations or even all four.
Vi also has a pouch of heavy metal washers, used as launch points to push herself into the air, or
even as weapons. Some are encased in a layer of rubber or plastic so they will not be as noisy. She
also has a number of sharpened ones but is not even sure she likes that she made them.
As far
as a costume, she has fairly normal dark pants and shirt, sash and gloves, with a cloak to help
conceal her identity, and also a domino mask. Every part of her outfit has spots to secret vials of
metal. She has more than one cloak, and has one that she cut it into strips, wondering if it would
help conceal her form sort of like a ghillie suit. It mostly doesn't, but she likes the look when
she flies through the air wearing it.
Maggia Daughter:
Viola's father, Joseph Fiore, is one of the top ranking bosses beneath Don Silvio Manfredi in
the Manfredi Family. Silvio is godfather to Vi and her younger brother Gino. With the family wealth
gained from Maggia activities, Viola grew up in luxury with a large, powerful extended family. She
first became aware of the nature of her father's business at the age of 10. Though it was during
high school that she gained a solid picture of the Manfredi Family. After uncovering her
grandfather's journal and discovering how to enhance her hearing, Vi was able to listen in on
conversations of her father and his men which quickly showed her the realities of the activities
that supported her lifestyle.
While her strong sense of empathy made her feel for some of the
victims, a number of deadly clashes with other families helped instill a conflicting sense of
loyalty about her family, and a desire to protect them. She could go either way, becoming a made
member of the family, or ending up opposing them. She is supported by her father's wealth even after
having graduated college.
Weaknesses
Aluminum:
If Vi has aluminum in her stomach and burns any other metal, all of her fuel metals will
disappear in a flash leaving her without a power source, briefly disoriented and slightly nauseous.
She learned this from her grandfather's journal, and has not revealed it to anyone. However, that
does not mean the knowledge might not be out there in the head of a rare someone who knew her
grandfather and his secrets. It is also the one metal she cannot push/pull with her powers.
Fuel Metal:
Vi's powers require metal in her stomach to function. Pewter, Tin, Iron and Steel each having a
different effect. Without them she is essentially powerless. Purity matters. While she could scrape
some iron off an object and swallow it, odds are she would get a weaker effect compared to a sample
of the correct purity and composition. Generally they need to be prepared specfically for her to be
full strength.
Maggia Boyfriend:
Since she was fourteen, Viola has been romantically linked to Carlo Manfredi, the second son of
Don Silvio Manfredi. The pair dated off and on through high school and into college. Their parents
would love to see them married. Viola's conflicting feelings about the Maggia have been one definite
road block to that happening. She also isn't quite sure that she loves him. Nor is he particularly
faithful to her. However she can't seem to fully break away from her orbit around him, even when
she's seen other people. He is one of the more powerful forces that pull on her sense of family
obligation and have prevented her empathy for the Maggia's victims from winning out.
Pewter Drag:
Technically Viola could run for hours at Captain America speeds as long as she had enough Pewter
on hand to keep replenishing it every few minutes. However, flaring Pewter for so long comes at a
price. When she finally stops she would encounter what her grandfather called Pewter Drag. An
incredible sense of weariness that would leave her sluggish and tired. Burning more Pewter would
temporarily relieve the condition, but the only true cure for it would be prolonged rest and sleep,
preferably with Pewter being slow burned for Healing.
Sick Stomach:
Too much metal will make her sick to her stomach and she will eventually vomit up the contents
of her stomach, which limits how much of each metal she can hold. The maximum -strength- of her
effects is independent of amount of fuel metal. But the -length- they can be maintained depends on
how much she has in her stomach. At ST discretion she might be able to swallow metal beyond her
limits with other consequences, such as nausea, headaches, not being able to hold down metal at all
for a time after, etc.
