Xaviers School for the Gifted

Group Description

Founded by Nobel Prize-winning biophysicist Charles Xavier, Xavier's School for the Gifted is located in Westchester, New York, about eighty miles north-east of New York City. Officially it's a private preparatory school for exceptional students, offering education through 12th grade and into college advanced placement. In reality Xavier's School for the Gifted is a home for mutants to hone both their unique talents and their minds, in an environment monitored and supervised by other mutants.

It's also much more than a school.

The so-called 'First Class' of original Xavier students took to the field to use their mutant talents in the fight for equality and against many other threats well-suited to their unique abilities. This team of superheroes, dubbed the "X-Men", the team is as much rumor as reality as they have used their powers and knowhow to conceal their existence from the public. The team technically operates independently from the school now, but the School and the X-Men are intrinsically linked: through their leadership, training and recruiting, and the vision of their founder.

General Summary

While it began accepting students in 2009, the history of the grounds extends to colonial times. In the late 1700s, the Greymalkin family settled on the shores of Breakstone Lake in upper Westchester and built a home, all of which would eventually pass to the Xavier family. In recent decades, Charles Xavier, a scientist responsible for work identifying the X-gene and the 'homo superior' species, inherited the estate. Himself a mutant and powerful telepath, he decided to convert his ancestral home into a new kind of school, specifically for 'gifted' young people.

Xavier found his first student in 2006, the young Jean Grey, who suffered under her emerging psychic abilities. He soon sought to gather additional students, and between 2009 and 2011 recruited what would come to be known as the 'First Class': Scott Summers, Bobby Drake, Henry McCoy, John Proudstar and Warren Worthington. Others quickly followed, recruited wherever Charles could find them, such as Ororo Munroe, Alex Summers, Lorna Dane and the young Kitty Pryde. Having learned to control their powerful abilities, they became the X-Men, a heroic team dedicated to Xavier's vision of equality and peaceful coexistence for mutantkind. Their first missions brought them into conflict with frequent enemies like the Sentinels and Mister Sinister. X-Men were present on the ground fighting back during the 2012 Alien Alliance Invasion.

In the following decade, the school has continued to expand and recruit new students, while its older graduates have often returned to teach. The cohort called 'New Mutants' formed during the X-Men's first outing into space, when Professor Xavier believed they had all perished. Once plucky youngsters looking to fill the shoes of those who came before them, they too are now young adults, some having joined the X-Men in full. The 'New Mutants' continue to represent current students at the school with a thirst for adventure and heroics.

Xaviers School for Gifted Youngsters is in the large part funded through Xavier's own family fortune. With a dedication to providing a safe haven for Mutants, Xavier invests a significant portion of his personal wealth into the school's operations and infrastructure. Furthermore, he welcomes donations from trusted sources, parents and wealthy alumni who share his vision and commitment to advancing the cause of Mutant rights. Charles ensures that these donations are spent on the school and do not go towards funding the X-Men, to ensure that there is no risk of requirements of funding transparency revealing anything about the secretive mutant superhero team. He keeps a separate fund for the X-Men which is primarily his own money, though he has accepted some secret donations from a few extremely trusted individuals. These funds are instrumental in maintaining the subterranean X-Men base, where the Blackbird aircraft, Danger Room training facility, and Cerebro supercomputer are meticulously upheld. Additionally, the financial contributions aid critical medical research, enhancing the team's abilities and facilitating advancements in Mutant healthcare.

Recent History

After the Johnson-Kinsey Mutant Felon Relocation Act in 2017, the population at Xavier's grew significantly.

In 2020, several members of the school faculty and student body were targeted by different groups seemingly interested in metahuman research and genetics. Mister Sinister helmed one such plot.

When Brainiac targeted mutant population centers in Bushwick, New York and the island nation of Genosha, Xavier's population was affected by their familial and personal ties to these areas. School members joined in helping restore the stolen cities.

Emma Frost, once White Queen of the Hellfire Club, defected and briefly joined Xaviers as a teacher, before establishing herself on her own in Bushwick. Her defection related to another mutant genetics program and the kidnapping of several Xaviers residents, apparently under the auspices of the Hellfire Club.

OOC Info

The Xaviers group represents all of the students, faculty and staff who work at the school, as well as close allies, associates, and regular guests. School students are approached by the school and recruited rather than applicants. Because of the size of the group and the focus on keeping true to the school character, characters who are not canonically based at the School are expected to spend some time RPing their IC recruitment before they are joined to the group. You can request to automatically join the Mutants group first, and communicate and organize RP there.

The X-men are known by some other heroes that they have collaborated with. The Avengers, Justice League and Titans have all worked alongside the X-men before, and are aware of their being based out of Xavier's School. A few other individual allies like Moira MacTaggert and Nick Fury are also aware. Mutants in general might have heard rumors of a mutant superhero team, but are not aware of the connection to Xavier's School. Sharing knowledge about the School's mutant connection should only be done with the approval of the group leads or staff.

The School and the X-Men are closely linked but separate groups. Xavier's School RP focuses on the experience of living at a fancy boarding school with weird mutant classmates and superhero teachers. People RP counseling or student pranks, and past organized events have included graduation, holiday parties, and school trips. Student activism (in the mutant cause) and heroic training can eventually lead to invitation to join the field operations of the X-Men.

2020:

• 2020-05-01: Four of the Kinney clone-sisters escape Alchemax, Gabby Kinney among them. The others have died or sacrificed themselves to ensure they can escape. Gabby and Bellona end up at Xavier’s.
• 2020-04-01: Alison Blaire accepts the offer made years earlier for training and a solid home base and joins Xaviers.
• 2020-04-01: Ellie joins Xaviers.
• 2020-04-01: Joshua Foley joins Xaviers
• 2020-04-01: Marie-Ange Colbert joins Xaviers.
• 2020-03-01: David Allyene returns to Xavier's to develop his skills and his social ethic.

2019

• 2019-09-01 : James Proudstar graduates from the High School portion of Xavier's School. He returns home to find that his tribe has been murdered in an attack by unknown assailants.
• 2019-08-01: Betsy Braddock joins the X-men.
• 2019-07-01: Illyana Rasputina reincarnates (again). Resumes studies and seeks magical tutelage.
• 2019-06-01: Hank McCoy returns to the X-men. He is doing research at the school, but is sometimes lassoed into teaching.
• 2019-05-01: Scott and other veterans get teaching degrees. Xavier's School begins to expand as a response to a surge of thousands of mutants manifesting powers now on a monthly basis.
• 2019-04-01: Alex Summers is attacked by his mentor, DR. Ahmet Abdol. The battle breaks the genetic lock placed on Alex's powers, revealing him as a mutant as his power erupts once more, drawing the attention of Professor Xavier and the X-Men.

2018

• 2018-09-04: Mystique unleashes Rogue on Carol Danvers at the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. A fight ensues and ends with Rogue throwing Carol off of the Golden Gate Bridge down into the waters below. Carol Danvers slips into a coma; Rogue goes on the run.
• 2018-08-16: Tabitha Smith leaves for Genosha.
• 2018-07-06: The Mutant Massacre - Most of the Morlocks are killed. Many X-Men are seriously injured. Anti-Mutant hysteria is at an all-time high.
• 2018-07-1: Remy LaBeau is tasked by Mr. Sinister to assemble a group of mercenaries for an attack on a mutant colony beneath Manhattan known as the Morlocks. Remy attempts to stop them, but the massacre still happens and Remy is gravely wounded in the process. The Marauders are reviled for their attack but Remy's involvement remains a secret.
• 2018-05-20: Jean Grey graduates from college and resumes helping Professor Xavier at the school while preparing for post-graduate work.
• 2018-04-15: Lorna Dane named heir to the throne of Genosha.
• 2018-04-13: Illyana Rasputina joins New Mutants.

• 2017-10-02: Days of Future Past - Thwarted attempt on Senator Robert Kelly's life.
• 2017-10-01: Charles Xavier is presumed Dead following events of Days of Future Past; Taken by Shi'ar Empire
• 2017: Days of Future Past - Charles helps Jean assert control over the Phoenix Force and expel the entity. The violent separation leaves fragments behind. One such 'ember' notices Rachel in the future, and helps bring her into the present. The other is drawn to Jean's yet-unknown clone.
• 2017-08-01: Stavros contacted, offered enrollment at Xavier School
• 2017-08-01: Julian Keller joins Xaviers.

• 2016-03-01: James Proudstar leaves the reservation to attack Xavier. While he succeeds in briefly capturing him and threatens to kill him over John's death, the X-Men arrive and subdue him, and he learns the truth behind his brother's death. James comes to realize that Xavier was not at fault. To honor him, and to learn more from people that fought alongside him, he agrees to attend Xavier's school.
• 2016-02-02: Douglas Ramsey meets Warlock during the Sentinel Invasion, is invited to join Xavier's school.
• 2016-01-01: Ellie is one of the mutates to successfully go through the Reverse Mutate Process devised by Magneto's Government to try and return mutates into their former state, as independently thinking mutants with free will.

• 2015-11-01: Wild Sentinel program begins, US government hires Magistrates from the fallen Genosha to help build them and update their mutant tracking, destroying, and control tech.
• 2015-10-09: Tabitha Smith joins Xaviers.
• 2015-10-01: The missing X-Men return from their space battles with The Brood.
• 2015-09-01: Magneto installed as ruler of Genosha after fighting against the mutant slavers there. He installs Mystique as the new leader of the Brotherhood and moves them to be his deniable Black Ops team.
• 2015-08-01: Moira MacTaggart sends Rahne Sinclair to the United States to her friend Charles Xavier, to be schooled by him in the use of her powers. It is here where she meets and eventually becomes friends with others like her, collectively known as the New Mutants.
• 2015-08-01: Roberto da Costa, Kitty Pryde, and Dani Moonstar are recruited to Xavier's School.
• 2015-04-01: The X-Men are taken to space and have to fight The Brood. They spend six months away from Earth. Scott finds out his father is alive. Xavier forms the New Mutants thinking the X-men are dead. A mission into space to fight the Brood results in Jean Grey merging with the Phoenix Force to save her life. The Phoenix commits ultimate genocide against The Brood. Kitty Pryde meets Lockheed, who stows away on their ship back to Earth.
• 2015-01-01: Lorna discovers she's Magneto's daughter.

2014

• 2014-12-01: In the chaos of the invasion and aftermath, the X-men (and Magneto) help to overthrow the mutant enslaving Magistrates.
• 2014-11-17: Xi'An Coy Manh: arrives at Xavier's with younger siblings to work and study.
• 2014-11-01: Dr. Karl Lykos befriends Xavier and acts as a doctor to the X-men. He drains the lifeforce from one of the students he is treating and turns into Sauron, sparking a battle with the X-men.
• 2014-07-01: Krakoa Crisis: A large group of exceptional mutants joins the field team. Scott struggles to lead the X-Men which now count with several members far older and very set in their ways. In one of their first missions, one of them gets killed, which he takes very hard. It sets the tone for the X-men going forward.
• 2014-01-01: The X-men discover Lorna Dane, and begin to train her to use her powers. She joins the X-men.

2013

• 2013-07-01: The X-Men battle Mister Sinister for the first time. He kidnaps Scott Summers and Jean Grey, and they are rescued by the other X-Men.
• 2013: X-men encounter the first of Bolivar Trask's Sentinels.
• 2013: Warren Worthington joins the 1.5 wave of X-Men.
• 2013: The Dazzler starts performing.

2012

• 2012-08-01: Larry Trask takes over Trask Industries from his father.
• 2012: John Proudstar is a casualty of the Alien Alliance Invasion, fighting alongside the X-Men. James' mutant abilities first begin to manifest in his rage over his brother's death. He swears revenge on Xavier for the loss of his brother. Scott Summers is appointed field leader of the team
• 2012: Alien Alliance Invasion. A fight with them results in attracting the attention of the cosmic entity known as the Phoenix Force. Later that year they help the gathered armies of Earth super-heroes against the alien invasion. Despite getting a good reputation among fellow heroes, they are hated by the public and considered part of the Mutant Menace. After the deployment of the Terrigen Mists in the atmosphere, the number of metahumans and mutates in the world skyrockets.
• 2012: The X-Men openly take the field for the first time to battle Magneto and prevent him from stealing nuclear devices from an army base. Despite the older mutant's overwhelming power, they manage to defeat him through teamwork and Xavier's psychic powers. John Proudstar, the oldest, and with military experience, is appointed field leader.

2011

• 2011-12-05: Henry McCoy joins the X-men under the name Beast after the team helped him free his parents from El Conquistador.
• 2011-11-01: The Brotherhood starts beef with Xavier's X-Men.
• 2011-10-01: Magneto sends a medallion to Lorna, with the M for Magnus/Max/Magneto on it and a note “for my North Star”. He is claiming her as his daughter though she does not realize that until later.
• 2011-08-01: Charles Xavier goes to Boston to recruit the Frost girls to Xaviers. Winston Frost is immune to his telepathic ‘nudges’ and throws Charles out, refusing to have his daughters taught by a mutant freak.
• 2011-06-01: Charles Xavier seeks out the 'Weather Goddess' (who turns out to be Ororo) and recruits her to join his team of mutants, dubbed the X-Men. She accepts and travels to America.
• 2011-05-01: Scott became Xavier's ward. Together they find other young mutants, and joined by Xavier's first student, Jean Grey, they become the X-Men. Jean becomes a member of Xavier's First Class. Also, Bobby Drake joins.
• 2011-03-01: Scott escapes the State Home for Foundlings and uses his meager savings to take a bus to New York. His powers manifest accidentally and he is attacked by a mob. Super-criminal Jack O'Diamonds saves him, but only to use his powers to commit crimes. Grateful at first, Scott rebels when Jack shows up being a scumbag. He manages to escape with the help of Charles Xavier.
• 2011-01-01: John Proudstar leaves the Reservation to join the X-Men.

2010

• 2010-11-01: Alex Summers and his adopted sister Haley are kidnapped by the boy responsible for Todd Blanding's death. When the kidnapper attacks Alex, his powers manifest and he vaporizes the other boy with a blast of plasma. Sinister wipes these memories from Alex and Haley and genetically locks his powers but begins taking a more active interest in Alex as well as his brother. Alex harbors an unconscious fear of his power regardless.
• 2010-08-18: Illyana Rasputina born to parents Alexandra and Nikolai in Siberia, Russian Federation.
• 2010: Acolytes established as a secondary group beside the Brotherhood, who worship Magneto and see his eventual martyrdom as saving the mutant race. Magneto laughs off their “foolish religious bullshit” and decides to use them as pawns anyway.
• 2010: Magneto has a fallout with the Pietro Maximoff and Wanda Maximoff.
• 2010: Warren Worthington joins Xavier’s School but declines to participate with the X-Men.

2009

• 2009-01-01: LexCorp steals a prototype Sentinel from Trask Industries. Lex Luthor reverse engineers the sensors and develops a genetic masking device. A complete version is shared with Sebastian Shaw who makes them in limited numbers to provide to members of the Hellfire Club.
• 2009: Xavier begins converting the home into a school to help more children than just Jean
• 2009: Henry McCoy eventually exposed as a mutant and asked to leave his university. Approached by Charles Xavier who offered unlimited academic opportunities.
• 2009: "Milton Milbury" gives Scott synthetic ruby quartz glasses, which apparently make the headaches vanish. Feeling much better Scott takes some control of his own life for the first time.

2007

• July 2007: Mark III Sentinels created. Very lethal. Very powerful.

2006

• 2006: Jean Grey is brought to Charles Xavier to seek treatment and training for her abilities.

2005

• 2005: The last in a series of ten clones Alchemax creates is created: Gabby Kinney. By now Alchemax has given up on attempting to re-create the mutant powers in the sample of DNA acquired and are instead pursuing other means of creating a line of assassins and 'bodyguards' using nanomachines.
• 2005: Humanity First (later rebranded to Pro-Humana) is formed by Filipe Caradenza, a dual US/Italian citizen. They are part political movement and part anti-meta/anti-mutant supremacists.
• 2005: Jean Grey’s mutant powers emerged at age 10 with the trauma of witnessing the death of her friend Annie Richardson.
• 2005: Magneto reveals himself to his twins, having found them after years of searching. They promptly join his Brotherhood.

2004

• 2004-09-23: Ellie Phimister is born in Genosha.
• 2004: Alchemax obtains stolen DNA samples from a clone of Logan Howlett. Their own clone work fails and there is a low rate of success for their mutant cloning process.

2003

• 2003-10-01: Scott Summers wakes from coma and starts rehab. Nathaniel Essex under the guise of Milton Milbury arranges for Scott to be delivered to the State Home for Foundlings.
• 2003-02-15: Josh Foley born in The Bronx, NY.
• 2003-01-14: Jubilation Lee born.

2002

• 2002-09-01: Christopher Summers' private airplane is shot down by a Shi'ar spaceship. Christopher and his wife Kate are presumed dead. Scott and Alex fall in a burning parachute. Both survive, but Scott suffers critical injuries and is in a coma for a year.
• 2002-06-01: Graydon Creed founds the Friends of Humanity political party.
